Most of Templestowe was built out through the 1970s and 80s — architect-influenced split-levels, cathedral ceilings, cedar and brick, sitting on blocks big enough for a pool and a shed. That layout creates long cable runs and a lot of outdoor circuits, and outdoor circuits are where we find most of the faults. Perished conduit, direct-buried cable that's been hit by a garden bed, and light fittings full of water are the standard finds when we start tracing a fault on a Templestowe property.
The other Templestowe constant is the pool. Pump, chlorinator, heater and lighting all sit in wet, corrosive conditions, and the rules around zones and earthing near water are strict for good reason. We check the equipotential bonding, replace tired weatherproof outlets and make sure the pool equipment is on its own RCD-protected circuit — so a failed pump motor doesn't take out the kitchen or the smoke alarms inside the house. It's a half-day job that saves a lot of nuisance tripping.
Templestowe has no train line, so nearly every household runs two or three cars — and that's driving a steady run of EV charger installs, usually in a double garage a fair way from the switchboard. Long runs need the cable sized correctly for voltage drop, not just for current. We measure the actual route, price the cable honestly, and where the house is already on three-phase we'll set the charger up to use it, which cuts the charging time considerably.
