Tesla EV wall connector installation by Elecool Electrical in a Melbourne garage

A home EV charger pays for itself in convenience alone. No more public charging detours, no more late-night battery anxiety, no more cables running across the garage floor. Elecool installs Level 2 home EV chargers across South East Melbourne — sized to your supply, mounted where you want them, and certified compliant from day one.

Why install an EV charger at home

Public chargers are fine for a top-up, but nothing matches plugging in at home overnight and waking up to a full battery. A Level 2 charger delivers 5–10 times the speed of a standard 10A power point — most cars charge fully in 6–8 hours instead of 24–30.

Off-peak electricity rates make home charging dramatically cheaper than fuel. With solar, it's effectively free. And a properly installed charger increases property value, especially as more buyers move to EVs.

Our EV charger installation process

Step one: a free site assessment. We check your switchboard, look at the cable run, and discuss the best mounting location. Step two: a fixed-price quote, including any switchboard upgrade or RCD work required for compliance. Step three: installation — usually a half to full day — and full testing. Step four: certification and a walk-through of the app and charging settings.

We work with every major brand: Tesla Wall Connector (Gen 2 and Gen 3), BYD, Chery, Wallbox Pulsar Plus, MyEnergi Zappi, Schneider EVlink, JET Charge, Ocular, Delta and ABB. As MyEnergi approved installers, we can also integrate solar-aware charging through the Zappi range.

Frequently asked questions

Still have questions?

Ask the team
How much does an EV charger install cost in Melbourne?
Most home installs land between $1,200 and $2,800 fitted. Variables include the cable run length, whether the switchboard needs an RCD upgrade, and the charger model. We give a fixed-price quote after the free site assessment — no surprises on the invoice.
Do I need a switchboard upgrade for an EV charger?
Sometimes. Modern boards with spare RCD-protected capacity are fine as-is. Older boards with ceramic fuses or no safety switches need an upgrade — typically $1,800–$3,500 — which we can bundle with the charger install. We confirm at the site visit.
Can you install a Tesla Wall Connector?
Yes. Tesla Wall Connector Gen 3 is one of our most-installed chargers. We're familiar with the wiring requirements (3-phase or single-phase 32A/40A), the load-sharing settings, and the network setup so you can monitor charging from the Tesla app.
How long does an EV charger installation take?
A straightforward single-phase install with the charger close to the switchboard takes 4–6 hours. Long cable runs through ceiling cavities, three-phase upgrades, or boards needing replacement push that out to a full day.
Do I need a three-phase supply for an EV charger?
No — single-phase is fine for most home chargers. A 32A single-phase supply gives ~7.4kW (about 40km of range per hour of charging). Three-phase opens up faster charging (up to 22kW) and is worth it if you have the supply already or are upgrading anyway.
Will my EV charger work with solar?
Yes — and it's one of the best reasons to install one. Smart chargers like the MyEnergi Zappi or Wallbox Pulsar can be set to charge only from excess solar, giving you effectively free driving. We're MyEnergi approved installers and can set this up at install.
Can you install at an apartment or strata property?
Yes, with caveats. Strata installs need owners-corporation approval and a power-source decision (your meter vs common power with sub-metering). We've done dozens of these across Melbourne apartments — we can help you navigate the OC paperwork.
Is the EV charger covered by warranty?
The charger itself comes with the manufacturer's warranty (typically 3–5 years). Our installation workmanship is warranted for 12 months. Both warranties are honoured at no charge — if anything stops working, we come back and fix it.
