Under Victoria's workplace safety laws, employers must keep plant and equipment safe — and AS/NZS 3760 is the recognised way to show you've done that for anything that plugs in. We test and tag every portable appliance and lead on site, record the results in a register, and repair or replace what fails on the spot where we can.

What we test

Portable and hand-held appliances, IT equipment, kitchen appliances, extension leads and power boards, portable RCDs, and fixed RCDs (push-button and trip-time testing). Each item gets a visual inspection, the relevant electrical tests, and a durable tag showing the test date and the next test due.

You get a full register — item, location, result and re-test date — so you can show your insurer, landlord or WorkSafe exactly what was done.

How often does equipment need testing?

AS/NZS 3760 sets intervals by environment. Equipment in harsh or high-use environments — workshops, commercial kitchens, factories, hire gear — needs testing far more often than equipment in a low-risk office. Construction and demolition sites follow the tighter requirements of AS/NZS 3012.

We'll recommend intervals for each area of your site and remind you when the next round is due, so it never lapses.

Frequently asked questions

Still have questions?

Ask the team
Is test and tag a legal requirement in Victoria?
Victorian employers have a duty under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 to provide and maintain safe plant and equipment. AS/NZS 3760 is the recognised standard for doing that with electrical equipment, and insurers, landlords and head contractors commonly require it. Construction sites have specific requirements under AS/NZS 3012.
How often do we need to test and tag?
It depends on the environment. Harsh or high-use environments such as kitchens, workshops and factories need more frequent testing than a low-risk office. We'll set intervals for each area of your site and remind you when the next round is due.
What happens if something fails?
We tell you straight away, remove it from service with a clear label, and — because we're licensed electricians — repair it on the spot where that's practical and safe.
Will testing disrupt our business?
Each item is only unplugged for a minute or two. We can test before opening, after close, or work through a site area by area.
Do you test RCDs as well?
Yes. We test portable RCDs and the fixed safety switches in your switchboard, including trip-time testing, and record the results.
Can test and tag be part of a maintenance contract?
Yes — most of our commercial clients have test and tag scheduled as part of an annual maintenance contract with emergency lighting and thermal inspections.
