Preventive maintenance

Thermal imaging switchboard inspections in Melbourne

A thermal camera shows what a visual check can't — loose joints, overloaded circuits and failing components heating up inside your switchboard, before they fail.

Most switchboard failures give a warning first: heat. A loose termination, an overloaded circuit or a failing breaker runs hotter than everything around it, often for months before it trips, melts or starts a fire. A thermal scan under normal load finds those hot spots in minutes, without shutting anything down.

How a thermal inspection works

We scan your main switchboard and distribution boards while the site is trading, so circuits are under their normal load. Anything running hotter than it should is photographed with both a thermal and a standard image, measured, and rated by urgency.

You get a report showing every issue found, why it matters, and what we recommend — and because we're A-grade electricians, we can quote and fix the problems straight away.

Who should get one

Commercial kitchens and venues with heavy loads. Retail and offices with older switchboards or recent fit-outs that added load. Warehouses with machinery and high-bay lighting. Property managers who need evidence of preventive maintenance for insurers. An annual scan is also included in our maintenance contracts.

Frequently asked questions

Still have questions?

Ask the team
Do you need to turn the power off for a thermal scan?
No. The scan is done with the site running normally — that's the point, because circuits need to be under load for hot spots to show up. We only need safe access to open the switchboards.
What problems does thermal imaging find?
Loose or corroded connections, overloaded circuits, unbalanced phases, failing breakers and contactors, and damaged insulation — anything that's generating more heat than it should.
How often should switchboards be scanned?
Annually is common for commercial sites, and more often for high-load sites like commercial kitchens or sites with a history of faults. Many insurers view regular thermal scans favourably as evidence of preventive maintenance.
How long does it take?
Most small-to-medium commercial sites take an hour or two on site, with the report following shortly after.
Can you fix what you find?
Yes. We're A-grade licensed electricians, so we quote the repairs with the report and can usually fix urgent items the same day.
Can you send insurance certificates before work starts?
Yes. We carry $20 million public liability, professional indemnity and workers compensation, and we send certificates of currency before we start on site. Most landlords, centre managers and head contractors ask for them — tick the box on the quote form and we'll send them with your quote.
